AFC names key Vietnamese players ahead of World Cup qualifiers
VOV.VN - The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has revealed the names of three Vietnamese players who are expected to shine in the upcoming match against Saudi Arabia in the final qualifying round for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
In the recently-published article, the AFC note that the Vietnamese national team have never before reached this stage of the qualification process for the World Cup.
However, after gaining plenty of experience of playing at the highest level of the continental game, their Group B opponents should not take them lightly.
According to the AFC, Vietnam will be banking on the stars of their “New Golden Generation”, which mainly draws players from the 2018 AFC U23 Championship runners-up side, with the team having the potential to cause a few upsets against more experienced opponents.
“Chief among them is the prodigiously talented midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai, while striker Nguyen Tien Linh and captain Que Ngoc Hai lead a talented supporting cast,” says the website.
Upon mentioning Quang Hai, the AFC consider him as one of the most exciting attacking midfielders in Asia. In addition, they believe Tien Linh will be in prolific form in the fixtures to come, particularly as the forward stands at six foot tall.
The website also stressed that the captain and rock at the heart of Vietnam's defence Que Ngoc Hai will see no shortage of action when the centre back takes on some of the best attackers Asia has to offer.
