AFC fines Hanoi Police FC US$5,000 over on-field brawl

VOV.VN - The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has fined Hanoi Police FC US$5,000 following a brawl with China’s Beijing Guoan during the 2025–2026 AFC Champions League Two.

In a recent announcement, the AFC Disciplinary Committee stated that the conduct of Hanoi Police FC and Beijing Guoan players during their September 18 match in China damaged the reputation of the sport. Rather than punishing individual players, the Committee imposed fines on both clubs, with each team paying US$5,000.

The incident occurred in the 80th minute when Chinese defender He Yupeng intentionally stepped inward during a challenge near the touchline, disrupting Hanoi Police FC’s attack. With the score tied 2–2 and Hanoi Police FC eager to regain control, Brazilian striker Alan Grafite grabbed He Yupeng’s leg and pulled him off the pitch, prompting Beijing Guoan players to rush in and escalate the confrontation.

Television cameras were forced to pan away for several minutes to avoid broadcasting the violent scene, and both teams’ coaches and substitutes left the technical area. With no VAR available, referee Wiwat Jumpaoon issued yellow cards to Cao Quang Vinh and Wu Shaocong, and after consultation, also booked Stefan Mauk and Wang Ziming. No red cards were shown.

Fans at the stadium expressed frustration, throwing bottles onto the field, and it took nearly six minutes for order to be restored before play resumed.

Currently, Hanoi Police FC and Beijing Guoan both have five points from four matches, ranking second and third in Group E, with Hanoi Police FC ahead on goal difference. Australia’s Macarthur FC lead the group with seven points, while Hong Kong’s Tai Po FC sit last with four points.

With two matchdays remaining, the group will determine the two teams advancing to the Round of 16. Hanoi Police FC will host Beijing Guoan at Hang Day Stadium in Hanoi on November 27 before traveling to face Tai Po FC on December 11.
