5 golds for Vietnam at SEA Open Water Swimming Championships 2025
VOV.VN - Vietnamese swimmers have brought home five gold and one silver medals at the South East Asian Open Water Swimming Championships 2025 which closed in Thailand on September 14.

On the final competition day, the national team added another gold in the 4x1.5km mixed relay.
The coaching staff fielded a lineup of Nguyen Huy Hoang, Vo Thi My Tien, Nguyen Kha Nhi, and Mai Tran Tuan Anh, and the Vietnamese team went head-to-head with those from hosts Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
In the end, Vietnam finished first with a time of 1 hour 12 minutes 53.29 seconds, winning the gold medal. According to the coaching staff, athletes faced challenges due to heavy rain, strong winds, and big waves at the competition venue. Despite this, the Vietnamese swimmers persevered and secured victory.
Thailand finished second with a time of 1:17:37.23, while Indonesia claimed bronze in 1:18:33.63. Malaysia ranked fourth at 1:23:55.65.
With this result, Vietnam concluded the tournament with five gold medals and one silver. Gold medalists were Nguyen Huy Hoang (10km), Vo Thi My Tien (10km), Nguyen Ngoc Tuyet Han (5km and 10km, girls’ 16–17 age group), and the mixed 4x1,500m relay. The silver medal went to young swimmer Nguyen Vinh Thai Bao (5km, boys’ 14–15 age group).
The three-day South East Asian Open Water Swimming Championships 2025 took place in Thailand from September 12 to 14. Vietnam sent seven athletes to compete in different age groups including the men’s and women’s 5km and 10km, and the 4x1.5km mixed relay.
This is the first time that Vietnamese swimmers have taken part in the competition as part of their efforts to prepare for the 11th Asian Aquatics Championships set to be held in India this October.
