35 players called up for AFC U23 Asian Cup qualification

VOV.VN - Head coach Kim Sang Sik announced a 35-player squad on August 12 ahead of the first gathering of Vietnam’s U22 team as they prepare for qualification games for the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup in September, 2025, before then playing in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in December, 2025.

According to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), the squad consists of new players, including goalkeeper Pham Dinh Hai of Hanoi FC, midfielder Nguyen Cong Phuong of The Cong Viettel FC, defender Tran Nam Hai of Song Lam Nghe An FC, and striker Nguyen Quoc Viet of LPBank Hoang Anh Gia Lai FC.

The squad also welcomes the return of a number of familiar faces, including midfielders Ho Van Cuong and Khuat Van Khang, as well as strikers Nguyen Dinh Bac and Bui Vi Hao.

The team also sees the presence of midfielder Nguyen Hong Phuc, defender Nguyen Duc Anh, and striker Nguyen Thanh Nhan.

The Vietnam U22 team will take part in a training course from August 13 to August 17.

They will then travel to China in order to partake in a friendly tournament between September 2 and September 10, with the event witnessing the participation of U21 teams from Malaysia, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and hosts China.
