27 players called up for World Cup qualifiers in June

VOV.VN - Kim Sang Sik, head coach of the Vietnamese national men’s football team, announced a 27-player squad on May 27 ahead of two matches against Philippines and Iraq in the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers this June.

According to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), the squad consists of outstanding goalkeepers including Nguyen Filip of Cong An Hanoi FC, Quan Van Chuan of Hanoi FC, Dinh Trieu of Hai Phong FC, and Dang Van Lam of Binh Dinh FC.

The squad also welcomes the return of a number of familiar faces, notably defenders Viet Anh, Tan Tai, and Van Thanh of Cong An Hanoi FC; Duy Manh and Xuan Manh of Hanoi FC; along with Tien Dung, Tuan Tai, and Thanh Binh of The Cong Viettel FC.

The team also sees the presence of midfielders Quang Hai, Hoang Duc, Thai Son, Hung Dung, Tuan Anh, Van Truong, and Van Khang.

Furthermore, strikers Bui Vy Hao and Tien Linh of Becamex Binh Duong FC, Tuan Hai and Van Tung of Hanoi FC, Van Toan and Ngoc Son of Nam Dinh FC also feature.

The national team players are scheduled to gather together on June 1 in anticipation of a short training camp. In June, Vietnam will play their final two Group F matches of the second Asian qualifying round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This will see the national team take on the Philippines in a home match on June 6 and Iraq in an away match on June 11. The VFF and new Korean head coach Kim Sang Sik both reached consensus on signing a two-year contract during a working session held on May 3.

Kim’s first task is to lead the national football team through the last two matches of the second qualifying round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in June.

He will then train his players during the FIFA Days between September and November in preparation for the 2024 ASEAN Cup – Mitsubishi Electric Cup which will take place in late November followed by the third qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup in March, 2025.

Meanwhile, the Vietnam U23 team will play at the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup qualification in September 2025 and then the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in December 2025.
