After the break, Vietnamese players performed better than the first half, giving them the chance to earn an equalizer in the 21st minute by Tu Minh Quang.
Four minutes later, Nhan Gia Hung fired a shot that forced goalkeeper Senbat to repel the ball that hit the goal post.
While in a good position, Vietnamese players made a mistake. Thinh Phat lost the ball at home and Worasak Srirangpirot took the advantage and scored another goal for Thailand.
In another Group A match at the same time, Myanmar beat China 3-1. Both Vietnam and Myanmar got four points each, but the former qualified for the knockout stage on goal difference.
