2022 AFF U23 Championship: Vietnam trounce Singapore 7-0

VOV.VN - Vietnam on February 19 stunned Singapore 7-0 in their opening game of the 2022 AFF U23 Championship which is taking place in Phnom Penh (Cambodia).

The Vietnamese side had four players infected with COVID-19 before the opening match, but their opponents even suffered more losses. Singapore only registered 14 players in the match where they expected to beat Vietnam to raise hopes of entering the knock-out stage.

With more players in good form, Vietnamese players made an impressive performance. Nguyen Van Tung scored an opening goal from a close-range header in the third minute before his teammate Dinh Xuan Tien hammered home.

It was Tung again who scored another goal in the first half, extending Vietnam’s lead.

U23 Vietnam easily controlled the match after a Singaporean player was sent off in the second half, and they scored four more goals.

The win helped Vietnam temporarily take over Thailand’s top position in Group C and just a draw against Thailand in the next game will send Vietnam to the knock-out stage.
