18 Vietnamese VAR referees pass FIFA test
VOV.VN - All 18 referees and assistant referees who attended a video assistant referee (VAR) technology training course have been confirmed as meeting FIFA's VAR refereeing standards.
According to details given by world football’s governing body, from now on the Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) is officially permitted to use VAR technology at stadiums.
FIFA also requested that the VPF carefully select several matches that will apply VAR at the early stage of operations. In line with this it should not be immediately applied in high-stake matches, FIFA added.
It also suggested that the VPF select normal matches to implement the technology, thereby allowing the VAR referee team to gradually get used to using it.
At some of initial matches using VAR technology, FIFA will send its VAR assistant referee to supervise and support the operation of the local team.
Furthermore, all equipment needed to operate VAR technology has been imported by the VPF and installed on two mobile VAR vehicles.
According to the schedule, the technology will be put into use in the V.League 1 in the 2023 to 2024 season.
The technology will be used to review situations that lead to a goal, a penalty, or a red card. Only the referee will have the authority to call for a video review, with players and coaches not allowed to put pressure on the referee whilst they review the decision.
