Yagi impact: Hundreds of flights cancelled for safety reasons

VOV.VN - According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), hundreds of domestic and international flights have been suspended to ensure absolute safety and to cushion the impact of typhoon Yagi on technical infrastructure.

Vietnam Airlines reported that it would temporarily halt aircraft operations on 53 domestic flights both to and from Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi from September 6 to 8.

A total of 25 international flights to and from the capital have been cancelled between September 7 and 8, said a Vietnam Airlines representative.

The Vietnam Airlines representative requested that passengers continue to monitor and stay updated on flight schedules vie its ticket agencies and its website.

Budgetary airline VietJet also announced the suspension of 67 flights to and from Noi Bai International Airport from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on September 7. It also canceled 18 flights to and from Cat Bi Airport in Hai Phong from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m., as well as four flights to and from Tho Xuan Airport in Thanh Hoa province from midday to 10:00 p.m.

Bamboo Airways also canceled 14 flights on September 7, including those from Hanoi and Hai Phong to destinations in the south.

The CAAV has decided to extend the closure time of Noi Bai International Airport by an additional two hours on the evening of September 7 amid concerns over downpours caused by typhoon Yagi. It will shut down from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on September 7.

Furthermore, the CAAV has requested that domestic airlines replenish fuel reserves for flights from 9 p.m. on September 7 to 2 a.m. on September 8 in the event of delays or the need to divert to alternative airports.

Van Don, Cat Bi, and Tho Xuan airports also halted flight operations during certain time frames on September 7 due to the storm's impact. Rain and thunderstorms are forecasted to affect operations at Vinh, Dien Bien, and Dong Hoi airports.

As many as 240 domestic and 70 international ones will all have to be cancelled due to the shutdowns.
