Work begins on archive house for Vinh Nghiem pagoda woodblocks

Construction started on an archive and exhibit house for a set of woodblocks, which are a UNESCO-recognised world documentary heritage, at Vinh Nghiem pagoda in northern Bac Giang province on April 25.

The collection of 3,050 woodblocks are printed with Buddhist Sutras and made in the early 14th century by monks at the pagoda.

They provide a wide range of information on the formation, development and ideology of Truc Lam Zen Buddhism, founded by King Tran Nhan Tong in the 11th century.

The archive and exhibit house has a total area of 400sq.m and a total investment of nearly VND30 billion (US$1.34 million).

It is scheduled to be put into operation by February 2017.
