WHO supports Nghe An in post-flood disease prevention efforts
VOV.VN - The World Health Organisation (WHO) has provided emergency support to central Nghe An province with 5,000 Aquatabs water purification tablets and 400 clean water storage bags to aid in the prevention of post-flood disease outbreaks.

The Nghe An Centre for Disease Control (CDC Nghe An) earlier sent an official request to the WHO Vietnam Office for supplies and chemicals to support public health efforts during the rainy season and floods.
Receiving the aid, CDC Nghe An promptly deployed three field teams to heavily flooded areas to guide environmental sanitation work and help prevent disease outbreaks.
To date, CDC Nghe An has distributed a total of 99,700 Aquatabs tablets and 300 clean water bags to severely affected local health centres. At Tuong Duong Health Centre, where flooding caused significant damage to medical equipment and supplies, CDC Nghe An reinforced response capacity by delivering three chemical spraying machines and assigning two technical staff for on-site support.
“There have been no major disease outbreaks reported so far following the floods. However, we are closely monitoring and taking preventive action against common post-flood illnesses such as conjunctivitis, viral fever, dengue fever, and diarrhea,” said Dr. Chu Trong Trang, director of CDC Nghe An.
According to the official, the flood-affected areas are vast and many ethnic minority communities do not speak Vietnamese, posing challenges for communication and public health education.
CDC Nghe An has prepared contingency plans in the event of an outbreak, including rapid response and containment strategies to prevent the spread of disease.
Nghe An has been severely affected by torrential rains, flooding, and landslides triggered by recent typhoon Wipha. Several mountainous areas were isolated for days due to deep floodwaters, causing major disruptions to transportation, daily life, and access to essential services.
In response to the call from the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An, numerous individuals, organisations, and charity groups have come forward to provide financial and material support to residents in flood-affected areas. Donations have included essential goods, drinking water, food, and medical supplies, contributing significantly to the province’s ongoing relief and recovery efforts.
