Whales spotted hunting off coast of Gia Lai and Dak Lak
VOV.VN - Over the past few days, whales have been sighted off the coasts of the Central Highlands provinces of Gia Lai and Dak Lak, captivating local residents with their rare and majestic appearances.

Dang Van Hai, a resident of Vung Boi, said he saw a pair of whales, a mother and her calf, actively hunting off Vung Boi coast of Gia Lai province on June 30. The mother whale measured around 10m long, and the calf was approximately 7m.
The rorqual incessantly opened its mouth widely and scooped in dense shoals of prey, whilst seabirds swooped in, competing for scraps, creating a stunning scene on the water.
Just days earlier, Hai also saw a solitary whale, about 10m in length, surfacing off the waters near Nhon Hai.
On July 1, another whale was spotted by a fisherman from Hoa Xuan commune in Dak Lak. The whale appeared near Mui Dien, where it surfaced and fed close to the shoreline for roughly five minutes before continuing its journey.
According to the Centre for Biodiversity Conservation and Endangered Species, in recent years, whale sightings off the coast of Gia Lai have become more frequent, particularly in areas such as De Gi, Vung Boi, Hoai Nhon, and Quy Nhon.
It says the presence of whales in Binh Dinh waters represents a positive sign as it indicates that the marine environment in the southcentral province is recovering well and can support the feeding needs of large marine mammals like whales.
