The World Bank (WB) has approved a US$50-million aid to help improve sewage treatment in Vietnam’s industrial zones.
The aid will go to an industrial pollution management project which aims to implement regulations on environment management in four provinces of Nam Dinh, Ha Nam, Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
Under the project, at least eight sewage treatment systems will be built at these four provinces which have the most industrial parks.
The project is part of WB’s programme to help Vietnam boost sustainable development, one of key areas in the national cooperation strategy between Vietnam and the WB in the 2012-2016 period.
Every day, up to 1 million cubic meters of untreated sewage is released by industrial parks, making up about 70 percent of the country’s total volume of industrial waste water, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
