WB, central provinces meet on environmental sanitation project

Representatives from the World Bank and four central provinces met in Khanh Hoa province on December 2 to appraise a WB-funded environmental sanitation project in four coastal cities in the four provinces.

The cities are Dong Hoi in Quang Binh province, Quy Nhon in Binh Dinh province, Nha Trang in Khanh Hoa province and Phan Rang – Thap Cham in Ninh Thuan province.

According to the WB’s working team, the goal of the project is to improve access to environmental sanitation services and the effectiveness of sanitation facilities in target cities.

Around 1.1 million residents in the four cities will benefit from the project, as will the local tourism industry.

The total investment of the project is US$273 million, of which US$46 million comes from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, US$190 million from the International Development Association provides and US$37 million from the Vietnamese side.

The project consists of four components: expanding sanitation infrastructure, improving urban connectivity, land clearance, and assisting institutional reform. It will be implemented from June, 2017, to December 2022.

Nguyen Huu Hoai, Chairman of the Quang Binh People’s Committee, said this is a very important project serving the community and Quang Binh pledges to provide sufficient corresponding capital to ensure quality and progress of the project.
