Wartime bomb safely detonated in Quang Tri

Sappers of the Quang Tri provincial Military Command on March 18 successfully detonated a magnetic bomb left over from the war.

The bomb was found by a patrol team of A Ngo commune's mobile militia in Dakrong district at Km10 on National Highway 15D. Upon receiving the report, sappers swiftly arrived at the scene, coordinated safety measures, and directed local forces to cordon off the area with warning signs to prevent any risks.

Identified as an MK36 magnetic bomb, the ordnance measured 1.6 metres in length and 27 centimetres in diameter, containing 80kg of explosives.

Quang Tri remains the most heavily contaminated province in Vietnam in terms of unexploded ordnance (UXO). Landmines and bombs have claimed over 3,430 lives and injured more than 5,100 people since the war ended in 1975.
