VOV, Swedish Embassy expand media and cultural cooperation
VOV.VN - The Voice of Vietnam (VOV) and the Embassy of Sweden in Vietnam will strengthen cooperation in media, journalism training and cultural exchange, with a focus on connecting media technology and developing music content.
The agreement was reached during a meeting at VOV headquarters in Hanoi on September 24 between VOV Deputy Director General Ngo Minh Hien and Swedish Deputy Ambassador to Vietnam Emelie Rennerfelt.
Hien briefed his guest on VOV’s development, saying over the past 81 years the national broadcaster now operates six radio channels, two online newspapers and 13 overseas bureaus. It is also an active member of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) and is completing procedures to join the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
Hien appreciated Sweden’s support for VOV over the years, particularly through training programmes conducted by Swedish experts that have helped strengthen VOV’s capacity to produce live radio programmes.
He expressed hope that the Embassy of Sweden would continue to serve as a bridge connecting VOV with Swedish media partners to exchange experience in media technology and new approaches to media production and communication.
VOV also wishes to further cooperate with Swedish Radio and other Swedish media organisations, including the Fojo Media Institute, through training programmes, media support and professional capacity-building initiatives for reporters and editors.
Music cooperation was another area of interest discussed by the two sides. Deputy Director General Hien thanked the Embassy of Sweden for supporting VOV in developing the broadcasting framework for the VOV Sonata channel. He also proposed that the Embassy continue connecting VOV with Swedish classical musicians to diversify the channel’s programming.
Rennerfelt, for her part, spoke highly of VOV’s cooperation with the Swedish Embassy, including through VOV5 and VOV3 on music programmes and VOV1 on news and current affairs.
She said the embassy is particularly interested in expanding music cooperation with VOV and hoped it would become one of the highlights of bilateral cooperation this year.
According to Rennerfelt, several Swedish organisations have royalty-free music resources. The Embassy will look for suitable materials and provide them to VOV, helping enrich the content of its music programmes.
The two sides also agreed to promote media and cultural exchange activities around important events in Vietnam and Sweden, helping foster greater mutual understanding and people-to-people connections between the two countries.
