VOV, KBS reinforce cooperative ties
(VOV) -KBS CEO and President Gil Hwan-young has announced the Republic of Korea (RoK) broadcaster will launch a Vietnamese programme serving the needs of the Vietnamese community later this November.
Gil Hwan-young foreshadowed the launch at a Hanoi reception hosted by Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) Director General Nguyen Dang Tien on October 31.

VOV Director General Tien congratulated the KBS President on his recent election to the presidency of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), decided during the 50th ABU General Assembly.
Tien said that as ABU President, he hopes Gil Hwan-young will usher in a new era of ABU development. VOV has enthusiastically fulfilled its obligations as a full member of the ABU, he said.

The VOV Director General believes the VOV-KBS relationship will only deepen thanks to the two countries’ comprehensive bilateral cooperation.
Mr Tien praised KBS’s role in the Republic of Korea’s rapid development and the promotion of Korean history and culture around the region and world.

He described KBS as an industry leader in digital technology, finalizing the digitisation of its radio and TV services in 2012. He highlighted its multimedia collaboration with VOV and the shared expertise the latter will deploy as it aims to improve its own content.
The VOV leader asked the KBS to help produce the Korean language programme the VOV is planning to launch, and work with the VOV on training, staff exchanges, and a range of other culture, music, and sports shows.

The KBS President expressed his admiration of VOV’s diversification achievements, saying it is on track to matching international media development trends.
Gil Hwan-young and his senior KBS leader entourage visited VOV’s TV and traffic channels at the VOV headquarters on Hanoi’s Quan Su Street.

Since VOV and KBS began cooperating in 1995, the two sides have formalised commitments to expanding friendship, mutual understanding, and broadcasting cooperation.
The VOV has dispatched experts to contribute to KBS’s Vietnamese language programme.
Thanks to KBS assistance, VOV reporters were able to attend the global news forum hosted by the Korean channel in July 2013.
