VOV attends 54th ABU General Assembly & Associated Meetings

The event saw the participation of more than 600 delegates from 270 Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) members of 69 nations.

This year’s event is themed ‘Media in Times of Uncertainty,” and focuses on strategies to ensure the leading role of broadcast media in future services for information, education, and entertainment for nations around the globe. It will tackle crucial issues regarding the successful re-positioning of broadcasting houses in a political, social and industrial environment of overwhelming uncertainty.

Addressing the five-day event running until November 4, President of ABU Ko Dae Young said the unprecedented development of technology has led to a Fourth Industrial Revolution, bringing significant changes to multiple fields, including the communications sector. All of the radio and television stations have made great efforts to map out new survival strategies for these uncertain times.

ABU Secretary General Javad Mottaghi underlined the importance of broadcasters in disseminating information on issues affecting the audiences’ daily life to help them receive relevant content. The digital revolution has offered opportunities to get more access to audiences in the past, and connect to different regions around the globe.

This year, the VOV delegation has actively participated in working groups to devise plans and strategies on communications.

Earlier on October 31, the ABU TV Song Festival transpired during the event. Vietnamese singer Luong Nguyet Anh represented the nation in attending the event.
