Vietnam's internet speed enters world's top 40 for first fime

VOV.VN - Vietnam’s internet speed has entered the world’s top 40 for the first time, according to a report conducted by Ookla Speedtest.

The report highlights that the country’s mobile internet download speed reached 86.96 Mbps in December, 2024, the highest recorded ever domestically.

This marked a 60% increase from September and served to lift Vietnam seven places to 37th in the global ranking.

It also marked the first time that both the nation’s mobile and fixed network categories have been among the top 40.

In June 2024, fixed broadband was on this list with a speed of 136 Mbps. The latest figures from Ookla indicate that this speed has now reached 159.32 Mbps and is ranked 35th globally.

Statistics from the Vietnam Internet Center show that mobile Internet speed stands at 67.85 Mbps, while fixed broadband is at 130.91 Mbps.

According to the Digital Infrastructure Strategy approved by the Government in October, 2024, Vietnam aims to have 5G mobile services in 100% of provinces, cities, high-tech zones, information technology zones, research and development centres, innovation hubs, industrial parks, international railway stations, seaports, and airports by 2025.

By 2030, 5G mobile broadband will cover 99% of the national population.
