Vietnam’s corner opens at World Festival of Youth, Students in Russia

An exhibition of documents and items to introduce Vietnam’s culture, people and landscapes, was launched on October 17, the third day of the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students in Sochi, Russia.

The exhibition aims to show Vietnam, its youngsters and the country’s socio-economic achievements after three decades of “doi moi”. It also introduces the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCMCYU) and its activities.

Signature items on display include “non la” (palm-leaf conical hat), “mu tai beo” (bucket hat), Hoan Kiem Lake 3D popup greeting cards, paper fans, fabric dolls wearing costumes of Vietnam’s 54 ethnic groups and other brocade-made items.

Secretary of the HCM Communist Youth Union’s Central Committee Nguyen Phi Long, deputy head of the Vietnamese delegation, met with Vladimia Isakop, First Secretary of Komsomol – the All-Union Leninist Young Communist League of Russia on the sidelines of the festival the same day.

Speaking at the meeting, Long, who is also President of the Vietnam Youth Federation, said he hopes the two unions will have more joint-activities, particularly to support Vietnamese students in Russia.

Isakop, for his part, highlighted the good relations between the two sides which have been significantly enhanced by Vietnamese students in Russia. He invited the HCMCYU representatives to attend the celebration of the Komsomol’s 100th anniversary next year.

The Vietnamese delegation later met with their peers from Cuba.-
