Vietnamese worker returning from West Africa cleared of Ebola

A Vietnamese man has been cleared of Ebola after returning from Sierra Leone with suspicious symptoms and being quarantined at a Ho Chi Minh City hospital early this month.

The passenger, identified only as a 27-year-old Binh Thuan native, arrived at Tan Son Nhat Airport on February 2 and screening found that he had a high temperature, cough and breathing difficulty.
The airport preventive health agency transferred him to the Hospital for Tropical Diseases.
The patient said he had cough, breathing difficulty, chest pain, chronic fever, and loss of appetite since the beginning of this month when he was working in Freetown, the capital of the West African country.

He lost 10kg in 10 days and had to return to Vietnam unable to work.
He was quarantined at the hospital before subsequent tests proved negative for the Ebola virus.
He is now being treated for tuberculosis.
The hardest hit by the deadly hemorrhagic fever caused by the virus has been West Africa, which reported 28,638 cases and 11,315 deaths since December 2013.
There was an outbreak in Sierra Leone in mid-January.
Vietnam has reported no cases of the disease so far.
