Vietnamese victims of Kazan fire in need of support
VOV.VN - A fire broke out at a shopping mall in the Russian city of Kazan on June 5, causing huge losses to traders, including overseas Vietnamese.
Half of the kiosks were completely destroyed, while the goods on those which escaped fire damage were ruined due to the effects of smoke and water.
It took 7 hours for more than 300 firefighters and rescue forces to stamp out the blaze. Despite there being no fatalities reported, the fire caused great property losses to the traders.
The Overseas Vietnamese Association in Kazan say the value of the goods which Vietnamese people lost in the blaze is around 32 million rubles.
The Association's Executive Board held a press conference in June 7 to receive information about the damage and launch a campaign to raise funds for the victims.
Counsellor Nguyen Quynh Mai says the embassy regularly contacts the OV Association and Kazan’s relevant agencies to come up with measures to protect the rights of Vietnamese traders and encourage OVs in Russia to support the victims of the fire.
