Vietnamese veterans in Germany honour war heroes at Berlin ceremony

The Vietnamese Veterans’ Association in Germany held a tribute ceremony in Berlin on July 27 to honour Vietnamese war heroes and invalids, marking the 78th anniversary of the War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day (July 27).

The event, the first of its kind on an Europe-wide scale, was backed by the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany, the Union of Vietnamese People Associations in Europe, and the Federation of Vietnamese People Associations in Germany.

In his opening address, Chairman of the Vietnamese Veterans Association in Germany Nguyen Quang Anh extended his heartfelt appreciation to heroic Vietnamese mothers, wounded and sick soldiers, families of fallen heroes, and all those who made sacrifices for the nation.

According to him, the Vietnamese community in Germany comprises many former soldiers and war veterans, some still bearing the physical scars of conflict, along with descendants of war martyrs.

Despite the challenges of life abroad, these individuals have shown exemplary resilience and dedication, actively engaging in community life and consistently contributing to gratitude activities.

Minister-Counsellor at the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany Chu Tuan Duc said the July 27 celebration adds significance this year, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's establishment, and the 50th anniversaries of the liberation of the South and national reunification, and the Vietnam – Germany diplomatic ties.

On the occasion, Duc and Counsellor Dang Hoang Linh presented certificates of merit to various individuals and collectives in recognition of their contributions to safeguarding Vietnam’s sea and island sovereignty.
