Vietnamese startup unveils AI-powered wearable to track mental health

VOV.VN - Local tech startup Brain-Life has launched Brain-Life Focus+, a smart head-worn device that combines artificial intelligence (AI), electroencephalography (EEG), and brain–computer interface (BCI) technologies to monitor and support mental health.

As a pioneering "Made in Vietnam" product in the field, Brain-Life Focus+ aims to make mental healthcare technology more accessible to the wider community.

The system features advanced sensors that combine EEG, fNIRS (to measure cerebral blood flow), and PPG (to measure heart rate). Together, these indicators enable real-time collection of physiological data that reflect key brain states such as focus, fatigue, stress, and exhaustion.

According to Vi Chi Thanh, founder and CEO of Brain-Life, one of the most notable aspects of the product is its affordability. While specialized medical EEG devices can cost tens of thousands of US dollars, Brain-Life Focus+ is priced between US$150 and US$200.

Thanh noted that the device is fully researched, developed, and manufactured in Vietnam, under the philosophy of "Made in Vietnam – EU Quality – Global Impact," underscoring the country’s capability in producing high-tech innovations.

He emphasized that all user data is encrypted and strictly protected in line with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Thanh, an international expert in BCI and machine learning, has authored over 45 scientific publications. He received the Best Paper Award at the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) CHI Conference, holds one patent, and has five others pending in both the United States and the European Union.

He currently lectures at Ho Chi Minh City International University (HCMIU) and the University of Sussex in the UK.
