Vietnamese, Russian scientists conduct joint survey in East Sea

VOV.VN - The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology has welcomed collaboration efforts with the Akademik Oparin research vessel from the Russian Academy of Sciences which came to conduct a joint scientific survey in the East Sea.

A welcome ceremony to mark the arrival of the Russian team was held on May 10 at Chua Ve Terminal of the northern port city of Hai Phong.

This marks the second sea survey to take place between the two academies as part of their roadmap for sea research co-operation for the 2018 to 2025 period.

As a means of preventing the possibility of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) transmission, despite having previously tested negative for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the entire survey team and the ship’s crew will not be permitted to go ashore during the survey. In addition, they will be quarantined in line with regulations following the trip.

During the course of the ceremony, the Akademik Oparin vessel with roughly 40 scientists onboard from the two academies embarked on a journey that will last for approximately one month in the East Sea.
