Vietnamese man arrested for kidnapping boy in Hanoi

VOV.VN - A man who was heavily in debt was arrested on August 15 by police forces in Hanoi for kidnapping a seven-year-old boy for ransom money.

The man was identified as Nguyen Duc Trung, 31, a resident of Tam Duong district in the northern province of Vinh Phuc.

According to details of the arrest, the police received reports that a seven-year-old boy residing at a villa in Viet Hung ward of Long Bien district had been kidnapped at 19:00 p.m. on August 14 whilst out riding a bicycle nearby.

Upon checking the security cameras at the scene, police forces discovered that the suspect wearing a hat and face mask had held the boy and subsequently put him into a car, leaving his bicycle on the road.

It took a total of 10 hours for investigators to find the kidnapper and the boy located at an industrial park in Duy Tien district in Ha Nam province.

During the arrest, Trung used a rubber bullet gun in order to shoot the right thigh of Nguyen Anh Tuan, a police officer based in Long Bien district.

Once at the police station, the suspect later confessed that he had done the kidnapping because he was in debt. Indeed, he had even asked the boy for his parents’ phone number to demand them pay ransom money of VND15 billion.

A further investigation into the case is now underway.
