Vietnamese, Lao women share experience

Women in Dak Lak and four southern Lao provinces exchanged experience in implementing their cooperation agreement for peace and development from 2012-2017 during a workshop in Vietnam’s Central Highlands province on July 13.

The workshop was jointly organised by the Women’s Union of Dak Lak and its counterparts from Laos’ Attapeu, Sekong, Salavan, and Champasak provinces.

Presentations at the event focused on gender equality, policies to promote the development of women, support for women to do business and build a happy family, and the implementation of Vietnam’s campaign: “family with five NOs and three CLEANs” (Five NOs: no poverty, no criminal offence and social evil, no domestic violence, no third child, and no malnourished children and dropouts, three CLEANs: clean home, clean kitchen, and clean street.)

The unions agreed to continue public communication campaigns to promote gender equality and to prevent crime, social misconducts, domestic violence and human trafficking.

The cooperation agreement for peace and development from 2012-2017 was signed between the two sides in Buon Ma Thuot city of Dak Lak province in November 2012.

Since then, they have helped trafficked women return home and persuaded women and children illegally crossing the border to return to the home country.

They have also provided education and vocational training for women from ethnic minority groups and have been involved in the policy-making process regarding human trafficking, social misconducts and crime, and domestic violence.

The agreement has contributed to strengthening the long-standing friendship and solidarity between the two countries and their people, said President of the Dak Lak Women’s Union Nguyen Thi Thu Nguyet.
