Vietnamese French professor receives Phan Chau Trinh Award

The 6th Phan Chau Trinh Award for research category will be presented to Vietnamese French Prof. Le Thanh Khoi, 90, father of Nguyen Le, a world-renowned Jazz/world music artist.

This year the Phan Chau Trinh Cultural Fund (formerly the Phan Chau Trinh Translation Fund to encourage and honour the unique cultural research projects; disseminate the cultural values of Vietnam and the world) will present its 6th awards on March 29.

From 2007 to 2011, a number of Vietnamese and foreign translators, scientists, cultural researchers have received this honour, such as Bui Van Nam Son, Le Hong Sam, Nguyen Dinh Dau, David Marr, Ho Ngoc Dai, G. Condominas, Hoang Tuy, Kevin Bowen, Nguyen Su, Nguyen Van Khoa and Alain Ruscio.

The Phan Chau Trinh award system includes the following awards: "For the cultural and educational career", "Translation", "Vietnamese studies" and "Research."

This year four awards will be presented to six individuals, as follows:

The For the Cultural and Educational Career award to Bui Tran Phuong, Rector of the Lotus University and Vu Duc Hieu, director of the Muong Cultural Space Museum.

The Translation Award to Chu Tien Anh and Pham Duy Hien.

The Research Award to Prof. Le Thanh Khoi, former honorable professor of the René Descartes University and Chairman of the World Vision Association.

The Vietnamese Studies Award to French Doctor Philippe Langlet, a former lecturer of the Paris VII University.
