Vietnamese education asserts international standing with over 360 Olympic medals
VOV.VN - The Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) reviewed the training of national teams for international and regional Olympic competitions on the morning of November 7, under the chair of Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong.
Huynh Van Chuong, Head of the Department of Quality Management under MoET, reported that over the past decade, Vietnamese teams participating in regional and international Olympiads have won a total of 362 medals, including 112 gold, 140 silver, 89 bronze, and 21 certificates of merit. This represents an increase of 48 medals compared with the 2006-2015 period.
For many consecutive years, Vietnam has ranked among the top 10 countries in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Informatics Olympiads, with numerous students achieving outstanding results from a very young age.
Results in practical skill-intensive subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, and Biology have been consistently maintained, inspiring students to pursue scientific research and promoting STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and AI education in schools.
From 2021 to 2024, the Party and State awarded two first-class Labor Orders, 34 second-class, 36 third-class orders, along with multiple certificates of merit from the Prime Minister to individuals and collectives with outstanding achievements.
Looking ahead, MoET will continue modernizing gifted student training, deepen international integration, and develop a national strategy for identifying, training, and utilizing young talents, while establishing breakthrough mechanisms to retain and maximize the potential of high-achieving students, Chuong added.
