Vietnamese citizens flown home safely from US, Singapore
VOV.VN - More than 340 Vietnamese citizens stranded in the US due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic were brought home August 10 and 11, on a flight of national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines.
The flight was arranged by the Vietnamese Embassy in the US in coordination with relevant agencies of Vietnam and the host country.
Passengers on board coming from many states in the United States, include children aged under 18, the elderly, the ill, workers with expired visas and labour contracts, students without accommodations, stranded tourists, and those in disadvantaged circumstances.
The Vietnamese Embassy in the US actively supported citizens as many of whom had to move from locations far from airports. It also dispatched their staff to assist the citizens to complete all required procedures before boarding the flights.
Strict security, safety and hygiene measures were carried out during the flights to protect the passengers’ health and prevent the virus spread.
After landing at Van Don International Airport in the northern province of Quang Ninh, all passengers and crew members were given health checks and quarantined in line with regulations regarding the COVID-19 prevention and control.
Meanwhile 240 Vietnamese citizens stranded in Singapore were also brought home on a special flight conducted by the low-cost airline VietJet Air on August 12. They landed safe and sound at Can Tho International Airport.
The flight was organized by relevant Vietnamese agencies, the Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore, budget airline Vietjet Air and relevant agencies of the host nation.
An array of similar repatriation flights will be conducted in the coming time to bring home more Vietnamese citizens in difficult circumstances based on their needs and the country’s current quarantine capacity.
