Vietnamese and Indonesian navies conduct joint training exercise at sea
VOV.VN - Ship CSB 8001 from Coast Guard Region 3 co-ordinated efforts with coast guard ship KN.Pulau Dana of Indonesia to conduct a joint training exercise on search and rescue and marine firefighting on the waters of the southern coastal province of Ba Ria - Vung Tau on October 11.
As part of the training situation, the two vessels received an SOS sign while they were out patrolling at sea. They subsequently contacted each other to approach the ship in distress and duly sprayed water in a bid to extinguish the fire.
During the firefighting process, the sailors of the ship in distress fell into the sea. The vessels were able to quickly determine the co-ordinates and rapidly launched a speedboat to approach the victims and brought them aboard to conduct first aid, successfully completing the mission.
According to Senior Colonel Nguyen Minh Khanh, deputy commander and chief-of-staff of Coast Guard Region 3, the joint training exercise aims to enhance the technical capabilities, equipment proficiency, and practical experience of the coast guard personnel from both nations.
The drill was held as part of activities of the Indonesian coast guard ship’s courtesy visit to Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
The ship with 54 crew members on board is led by Lt. Col. Umar Dhani. This marked the first visit made by an Indonesian coast guard ship to Vietnam, realising the co-operation agreement signed back in 2021 between the two nations’ coast guard forces.
During their four-day visit, the Indonesian delegation also engaged in sports and cultural exchanges, as well as tours of historical sites and landscapes in Vung Tau.
