Vietnamese and German enterprises find solutions for efficient energy market

VOV.VN - A roundtable discussion was held on February 21 in Hanoi between German and Vietnamese businesses operating in the field of energy efficiency.

The event drew the participation of representatives of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Project under the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), and nearly 20 Vietnamese and German firms in the field of technology supply, solutions, consulting, and efficient use of energy.

Dr. Nicole Glanemann, representative of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action, highlighted the seminar as an opportunity for the two sides to share experience and barriers in the process of implementing efficient energy activities in the nation.

This will help both sides gain a better understanding of market challenges to support businesses of both sides, while simultaneously offering opportunities for them to jointly boost co-operation and carry out pilot projects.

According to details given by enterprises, currently energy prices in Vietnam remain quite low, therefore there should be solutions devised to use energy efficiently before looking for alternative solutions for renewable energy use or energy conversion such as hydrogen, Dr. Glanemann went on to say.

At the conference, German businesses shared new technologies with solutions in the field of energy efficiency, experience to implement solutions, while Vietnamese enterprises shared difficulties in the process of carrying out solutions and investment projects for energy efficiency.

The biggest difficulties raised by firms of both sides relate to investment capital, corporate awareness of energy efficiency; high-quality human resources in consulting, technology transfer, technology acceptance and operation; and energy audit.

All these difficulties therefore require the State's support through policy tools.

Regarding the opinions of businesses, Dr. Glanemann underscored the need to develop programmes for basic training courses for businesses operating in various different sectors.

It can be viewed as essential to organise meetings and workshops to invite Vietnamese government management agencies to present possible pilot projects/models in both Vietnam or abroad, thereby creating confidence for businesses, as well as raising awareness among stakeholders, she said.

Markus Bissel, representative of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Project, voiced his hope that at the seminar, businesses of both sides will also offer ideas and solutions in which boost the development of the efficient energy market in the nation.
