Vietnam wins high prize at China-ASEAN Innovation Competition

VOV.VN - A research team from the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City bagged second prize at the China-ASEAN Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition 2022 (CAIEC 2022) on February 17 for their artificial intelligence software “Brain Analytics” which can help to detect Alzheimer's disease by analysing MRI brain images.

The research team was made up 20 people including doctors, engineers, and students; with the heads of the team being Pham Thi Nhu Trang, a final year student at the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering, Dr. Ha Thi Thanh Huong, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Duc, and Dr. Ngo Thanh Hoan.

Upon addressing the award ceremony at the headquarters of the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Trang emphasised that participants in the Brain Analytics project intend to receive support from the Asian medical and startup community to strive for further development outside Vietnam in the future, while seeking additional funding to build a local database to improve the efficiency of the software product.

Aside from "Brain Analytics", the second prize of CAIEC 2022 was also awarded to research work in the field of biomedicine, cell therapy for the treatment of type 1 diabetes by Professor Dang Thuy Tram (Vietnamese Singaporean), along with her three associates Tran Minh Phuong Nam, Chen Yang, and Arnold Giovanni of Nanyang Technological University (Singapore).

Elsewhere, another second prize went to a biomedical research project of a Singaporean enterprise, while two third prizes were presented to research work on digital economy and hi-tech agriculture by two firms from Cambodia and Myanmar. No first prize was awarded at the competition.
