Vietnam wins big at International Chemistry Olympiad 2024

VOV.VN - Four local students claimed three golds and one silver at the 56th International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO), which has recently been taking place in Saudi Arabia.

With the results, Vietnam ranked second out of the 89 participating countries and territories from across the world.

China topped the medal table, and Vietnam shared second position with the United States.

The gold medals went to Nguyen Huu Tien Hung from Bac Ninh High School for Gifted Students in the northern province of Bac Ninh, Giap Vu Son Ha from High School for Gifted Students in the northern province of Bac Giang, and Tran Dang Khoi from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted in Hanoi.

Do Phu Quoc from Le Thanh Tong High School for Gifted Students in central Quang Nam province bagged a silver medal.

The International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO) was first held in 1968. This year marks the 56th edition of the event.

Taking place from July 21 to 30, ICHO has drawn the participation of 327 contestants from 89 countries and territories worldwide.

Vietnam began to send contestants to the event in 2020. So far local students have won 17 gold and 3 silver medals and finished in the Top 3 in three consecutive years.
