Vietnam wins big at Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad
VOV.VN -All seven Vietnamese students brought home medals at the 2018 Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO) held in Russia, according to an announcement by the Department of Quality Management under the Ministry of Education and Training on May 21.

Other silver medalists involved Hoang Xuan Nhat, a 12th grader from the High School for Gifted Students under the Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City, Nguyen Khanh, a 12th grader from the Specialized High School under the Hanoi National University of Education, Trinh Huu Gia Phuc, a 11th grader from Lam Son High School for the Gifted in Thanh Hoa, and Nguyen Minh Tung, a 11th grader from the Specialized High School under the Hanoi National University of Education.
The bronze medals were delivered to Nguyen Hoang Hai Minh, a 12th grader from the Specialized High School under the Hanoi National University of Education and Duong Quoc Hung, a 12th grader from Thang Long High School for the Gifted in Lam Dong.
This year’s competition drew 187 students from 31 countries and territories, of which 87 students took home medals.
Vietnam is among the 7 gold medal winning nations, including China (6 golds), Russia (6 golds), Vietnam (1 gold), Bangladesh (1 gold), the Republic of Korea (1 gold), Taiwan (1 gold), and Georgia (1 gold).
Vietnam ranked third out of 31 participating countries, trailed by China and Russia. Last year, it finished seventh with 5 silver and 1 bronze medals.
The APIO is an International Olympiad in informatics for high school students within the Asian and Western Pacific region. The first competition was hosted by the Australian IOI team in 2007.
