Vietnam to hold first-ever auction of two-character “.vn” domain names

VOV.VN - Vietnam will launch its first-ever auction of two-character national “.vn” domain names, opening access to a highly limited and valuable pool of digital assets within the country’s internet namespace.

The Vietnam Internet Network Information Centre (VNNIC) announced that the auction will be conducted in two phases, scheduled for March and June. In the first phase, 50 two-character “.vn” domain names will be offered through an online auction platform, with bidding sessions set to take place from March 18 to 20.

According to VNNIC, the auction will comply fully with existing legal regulations, ensuring transparency, fairness, equality and healthy competition.

Two-character domain names under the national “.vn” namespace are considered a special and finite digital resource. Their short structure, memorability and strong brand recognition potential make them particularly attractive for enterprises, investors and organisations seeking to strengthen their digital presence.

The upcoming auction list includes several notable groups. Some domains correspond to well-known brand abbreviations such as mb.vn, lg.vn, hc.vn, cj.vn, jd.vn and jt.vn, offering strategic value in digital brand protection and expansion. Others are sector-oriented, including ot.vn (automotive), dd.vn (mobile), fa.vn (finance), gc.vn (golf) and ex.vn (export-import), suitable for industry-focused branding.

A third group reflects digital and social trends, such as 2k.vn, ok.vn, hi.vn, f0.vn, ez.vn and em.vn, which are expected to have strong viral potential in the online environment. Ultra-short alphanumeric domains including p1.vn, j2.vn, t7.vn and g8.vn are also featured, appealing to technology ventures and long-term digital investors.

The public auction aims to enhance the effective use of national internet resources while creating transparent opportunities for businesses and individuals to acquire unique digital identifiers within the “.vn” ecosystem.

Winning bidders will be granted the right to use the domain names in accordance with Vietnamese law and may transfer usage rights under current regulations. This provision underscores the growing recognition of “.vn” domain names not only as online identifiers but also as investment-grade digital assets with long-term commercial and branding value.

The auction marks another step in Vietnam’s strategy to increase the value and competitiveness of its national domain name system, support enterprises in building strong digital brands and contribute to the development of the country’s digital economy infrastructure.

Detailed information on the auction list and procedures is available at https://daugiatenmien.gov.vn/ and https://vpa.com.vn. and on the official auction portal. VNNIC encourages interested enterprises, investors and organizations to review the available domains and complete registration procedures ahead of the deadline.
