Vietnam to extradite two Russian criminals
The Hanoi People’s Court has accepted the Russian Federation Procuracy’s proposal to extradite two wanted Russians who were arrested in Vietnam.
The decision was made at a recent meeting by the court to consider the extradition of the two criminals, based on the regulations of the Penal Code, the Criminal Procedure Code, the Judicial Assistance Law and the Judicial Assistance Agreement between Vietnam and Russia.
According to the records of the Russian Federation Procuracy, Poliakov Valeriy, 39, was wanted by Interpol on charges of setting up criminal gangs, attacking citizens, storing weapons and blackmailing. The arrest warrant for him was issued on September 7, 2012.
Kosenok Alexey, 36, was charged of blackmailing and using force to appropriate citizens’ property.
Both were arrested by Vietnamese police at the Lao Bao International Border Gate in the central province of Quang Tri on July 9, 2013 when they were attempting to flee to Laos.
The Russian Federation Procuracy asked the Vietnamese side to extradite the two criminals because they had committed crimes that were not related to political and religious affairs.
At the meeting, the Hanoi People’s Court concluded that pursuant to the Vietnamese law, the two Russians committed such crimes as appropriating and deteriorating property; illegally producing, storing, transporting and trading weapons; and robbery.
