Vietnam to carry out labour force survey in 2017

Besides the participation of people aged from 15 and above in the labour market, the survey will collect information on employment in the agricultural sector, employment status and waiting time for jobs to serve the trial application of the international standards on employment as suggested by the international labour organisation. 

Lieu stressed statistics supplied by the survey will be an important basis for policy-makers to review and decide issues relating to social-economic development strategies and business and investment in each region and locality. 

According to the GSO, as of the end of 2015, the country had more than 69 million people aged from 15 and above, with the workforce numbering 54 million. 

An estimated 53.5 million labourers are employed, and around 1.09 million are unemployed, of whom 23% are young people.
