Vietnam Summer Camp 2018 kicks off in Phu Tho

The Vietnam Summer Camp 2018 kicked off at the Temple of Hung Kings in the northern province of Phu Tho on July 12, drawing 120 young overseas Vietnamese from 30 nations and territories, and a crowd of local youths.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Foreign Minister and Head of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs Vu Hong Nam expressed his hope that through the camp’s activities, young Vietnamese expats will be responsible for promoting the country’s culture and history to the international community as well as maintaining and preserving the cultural tradition in the overseas Vietnamese community.

This year’s camp, which lasts until July 25, features a big programme of activities across 11 localities from the North to the South.

Together with the opening ceremony at the Temple of Hung Kings, the closing event will be held in Buon Ma Thuot city, the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak. In between, the programme includes visits to historical and cultural relic sites in Hanoi and the provinces of Ninh Binh, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Nam, Kon Tum and Dak Lak.

Participants will also engage in charitable activities in the central provinces of Nghe An and Quang Nam along with exchanges with domestic youths and overseas young entrepreneurs.

Since it was first held in 2004, the annual Vietnam Summer Camp has attracted about 2,000 young people from various countries and territories.
