Vietnam, RoK join hands to deal with jeep incident’s aftermath: Spokesperson

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang on October 26 provided updates on the jeep incident at Cu Lan village tourist area in Lac Duong district, the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong that killed four tourists from the Republic of Korea and injured one Vietnamese.

The Korean tourists were experiencing the jeep tour service across a stream at the village tourist area when their vehicle was swept away by flash floods.

The spokesperson said the bodies of the Korean tourists had been taken to the General Hospital in Lam Dong and then on October 25 morning they were transferred to the forensic centre in Ho Chi Minh City, Hang said, adding investigation into the case is underway.

She said Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has offered condolences to the bereaved families and ordered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Chairman of Lam Dong provincial People’s Committee and competent authorities to promptly settle the consequences of the incident, investigate and identify responsibilities of the sides involved.

The ministries were asked to give timely directions to localities regarding measures to ensure security and safety for tourists.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has directed its relevant departments to work closely with domestic authorities and representative offices of the Republic of Korea in Vietnam to handle issues related to the incidents, and support funeral arrangement for the victims, she said.

The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in HCM City worked with Lam Dong authorities on October 25 on coordination in dealing with the issue, Hang added, sending the deepest condolences to the bereaved families.
