Vietnam responds to Earth Hour 2022
VOV.VN - A light-turning off event is set to be launched this March across the country for Earth Hour 2022 in a bid to encourage local people to save electricity and work together to protect the environment, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
All residents are therefore due to turn off all lights between 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on March 26 as a way of responding to the Earth Hour 2022 campaign.
Earth Hour is an annual global initiative that is organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in order to raise greater public awareness about climate change and the need to save energy around the world.
Over recent years the local Earth Hour campaign has attracted the attention of millions of people from 63 cities and provinces nationwide.
Last year saw the nation save 353,000kWh of electricity, equivalent to VND658.1 million, in one hour from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on March 27, according to statistics compiled by the Vietnam Electricity (EVN).
Furthermore, the country saved 492,000kWh and 436,000 kWh of power, worth VND917 million and VND812.9 million during Earth Hour campaigns held in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
