Vietnam registers 14 new coronavirus infections, 13 in Da Nang

The new active case in Hanoi is a 63-year-old male patient with address in the northern province of Hai Duong. His test results reported by Thanh Nhan Hospital and the Hanoi Center for Disease Control, all coming back positive for the SARS-CoV-2 on August 11 after he showed symptoms of cough, and fatigue, and diagnosed with severe pneumonia.
According to the initial investigation, there is no relationship or contact of the case with the Da Nang epidemic area, while the source of infection remains unknown.

The remaining cases related to Da Nang are mostly patients in treatment, those getting into close contact with previously infected people, care takers and a student interning at hospital.

Of the total active infections, 400 patients have declared to be free from COVID-19, reaching a recovery rate of 45.5%, and there have been 17 fatalities so far.

Among those in treatment, 10 have tested negative for the virus once and 51 others at least twice.

Vietnam has to date registered a total of 880 COVID-19 patients since the first positive case was found in January. Of those, 321 returned to Vietnam from other pandemic - hit nations and territories, and were quarantined immediately upon arrival.

Meanwhile, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Ngo Van Quy told a cabinet meeting on COVID-19 prevention and control the same day that since July 25, coronavirus infections in Hanoi have numbered 30, including 8 locally transmitted cases and 22 cases of entry from concentrated isolation areas.

Next week will be the height of the capital's COVID-19 combat, therefore, Hanoi needs to adopt stronger preventive measures aimed at delaying the potential spread of the virus, he added.

Since the recurrence of the novel coronavirus after a three-month hiatus last month, locally-transmitted cases have been detected across 15 cities and provinces, with Da Nang being the hardest hit locality.
