Vietnam records 37th death linked to COVID-19
VOV.VN - A 34-year-old Vietnamese man died of severe pneumonia due to COVID-19, on May 16, becoming the country's 37th death related to the pandemic.
His death was confirmed by the Ministry of Health on May 17 morning.
According to information released by the Subcommittee of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, the man had been suffering from several underlying medical conditions prior to testing positive for COVID-19.
He was taken to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi on April 24 due to severe pneumonia caused by COVID-19, along with a traumatic brain injury caused by a previous traffic accident, meningitis, and ventricular dilatation.
Upon being admitted to hospital, the man was immediately placed on a ventilation machine, although he subsequently died several days later.
This comes after the nation recorded its 36th death caused by COVID-19 following a patient from Thuan Thanh district in the northern province of Bac Ninh passing away on May 15. The 89-year-old woman was diagnosed with severe pneumonia due to COVID-19, in addition to advanced respiratory failure, diabetes, and hypertension, among other illnesses.
The country had previously recorded 35 deaths linked to COVID-19, all of which were associated with a COVID-19 outbreak which hit Da Nang in July and August of last year, with the most recent death being recorded in September. Many of them include elderly patients suffering from underlying conditions such as diabetes or kidney failure.
