Vietnam ready to join global efforts for HIV/AIDS prevention

VOV.VN -  Vietnam pledges to join the international community to prevent HIV and wipe out AIDS.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam made the statement at the UN General Assembly high-level meeting on HIV/AIDS that concluded on June 10 in New York.

"The prevention and fighting HIV/AIDS is one of the Vietnamese government’s top priorities and with the joint effort, the country has gradually contained HIV/AIDS.

Vietnam is the first Asia-Pacific country to respond to the UN’s 90-90-90 Targets and calls for the international community to make high-level commitments to the fight," he said.

On the sidelines of the summit, the Deputy Prime Minister met with the Managing Director of the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS, the Managing Director of the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the US’s global coordinator on AIDS and the Director of the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief.

They pledged to stand shoulder to shoulder with Vietnam to help it achieve the 90-90-90 targets by 2020, towards eliminating AIDS epidemic by 2030.
