Vietnam professor becomes academician at French medicine academy

Prof. Dr. Pham Van Thuc, Rector of the Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy, has become the first Vietnamese people to receive the “academician” title at the French National Academy of Medicine.

He and 24 other people were bestowed with the title at a ceremony held at the academy’s headquarters in Paris on December 20.

The French National Academy of Medicine comprises nearly 500 members, including 180 foreigners who are prestigious scientists in the world.

Thuc is also a member of many prestigious science associations and has been presented with the Honorary Professor title by many universities around the globe.

He was nominated as an academician of the French academy in 2015 and elected to this post in March 29 this year.

Meanwhile, his school – Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy – has obtained outstanding achievements in training and research of medicine and pharmacy, becoming one of the leading educational establishments in Vietnam.

It has joined in lecturer and researcher exchange programmes with more than 60 medical training and research establishments around the globe. The university is also a member of many famous science associations in the world.
