Vietnam launches 54th UPU letter-writing contest
VOV.VN - The Universal Postal Union’s (UPU) 54th International Letter-Writing Competition for Young People was launched at a ceremony held on November 11 at Nguyen Khuyen secondary and high school in the coastal city of Da Nang.
Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Bui Hoang Phuong noted that the competition aims to encourage both literacy and creativity through the art of letter writing on a given theme among young people aged between 9 and 15.
He also stressed that the contest helps to nurture the sense of responsibility among young people for both national and international issues whilst providing solutions to tackle them.
The 54th competition is to be organised by the Universal Postal Union (UPU) on the theme of “Imagine you are the ocean. Write a letter to someone explaining why and how they should take good care of you.”
In Vietnam, it is open to all Vietnamese children aged between 9 and 15. Each contestant is required to submit a handwritten letter of less than 800 words before March 5, 2025.
The contestants can write their letters in any language, but foreign-language letters must be accompanied by their translations into Vietnamese, which will be the language used for judgement.
Adopted at the UPU’s 1969 Tokyo Congress and launched in 1971, the UPU has encouraged the young to write letters on a given theme in order to win exciting prizes. All entries must be submitted through the National Post, and each country chooses a national winner and submits it as the country's entry to the UPU international competition.
Vietnam has taken part in the UPU Letter Writing Competition for 35 years, winning 17 prizes so far.
