Vietnam, Laos break ground on friendship school in Khammouane

VOV.VN - A ground-breaking ceremony for the Vietnam – Laos Friendship Vocational School was held in Nong Bok district of Khammouane province on January 5.

The school will be built on an area of 3.7 hectares with a total cost of US$5 million as a special gift from the Party, State and people of Vietnam to their Lao counterparts.

The project was unveiled during the August 2021 visit to Laos by Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

The project is expected to be completed and handed over to Laos in December 2022. It will initially provide vocational training for high school students, those who do not have a job, those who need to change jobs, and overseas workers who lost their jobs and returned home due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Addressing the ceremony, Vansay Phongsavan, Governor of Khammouane, noted that the project vividly demonstrates the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam.

This is an important human resources training and development project for Khammouane province, and is also one of the key projects to mark the Solidarity and Friendship Year between Laos and Vietnam in 2022 and 60 years of bilateral diplomacy, he stressed.
