Vietnam-Italy space technology exhibition gets underway

VOV.VN - An exhibition opening with the theme of “Vietnam-Italy Space Technology and Applications. Looking Beyond” launched on December 12 in Hanoi, with the event featuring images of the earth as seen from the sky.

The exhibition displays a total of 23 high-definition images of the Earth taken by the Italian satellite system COSMO-SkyMed and processed by Telespazio/e-GEOS, including two remarkable images of Hanoi and the Mekong Delta. This is along with nine panels by the Vietnam National Space Center (VNSC) illustrating the applications of satellite images in remote sensing and disaster preventions in the country.

As seen from the sky, the planet appears like a patchwork or a mosaic, resembling a beautiful piece of contemporary art.  Satellite technology has many important uses that contributes to human well-being and safety, particularly as it provides crucial information on climate change and earth dynamics, thereby helping to prevent natural disasters and better protect the global environment.

The COSMO-SkyMed system is a constellation made up of five radar satellites owned by the Italian Space Agency and the Italian Ministry of Defence. It is at the forefront of radar technologies, particularly as it provides the highest quality and precision features, which are required for Earth observation, regardless of weather conditions.

Telespazio/e-GEOS operates on behalf of the Italian Space Agency as the worldwide exclusive distributor of COSMO-SkyMed images.

The event has been co-organized by the Embassy of Italy in Hanoi and the Vietnam National Space Center (VNSC) under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) and aims to celebrate 50 years since the establishment of joint diplomatic ties which started in 1973 and mark the Italian National Space Day on December 16.

The exhibition is being held at the headquarters of the Vietnam National Space Center (VNSC) on Hoang Quoc Viet Street in Hanoi and will last through to December 23.
