VOV.VN - As many as 100 best contestants from 26 teams globally gathered in the final round of the Quantum Hackathon for Social Good (QC4SG) 2026 that opened in Vietnam’s central Gia Lai province on July 24.
The event is organised by the International Centre for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE), in collaboration with the National Innovation Centre (NIC) and the Vietnam National Quantum Technology Network (VNQuantum).
It marks the beginning of a broader series of science and technology activities in Gia Lai activities, and launches the "Gia Lai Quantum Year 2026" programme, reflecting the province's ambition to become a regional hub for research, innovation and high-tech development.
The QC4SG 2026 also demonstrates the province's strategic determination to proactively engage with cutting-edge global technologies and foster a spirit of interdisciplinary innovation. Furthermore, it aims to establish an ecosystem linking scientists, the younger generation, businesses, and investors to address practical challenges in pursuit of sustainable development.
At the opening ceremony, Dr. Vo Xuan Hoai, deputy director of the National Innovation Centre (NIC), stated that this year's competition attracted hundreds of applications from multiple countries within a short period, resulting in the selection of 26 teams for the final round.
According to him, one of the competition's defining features is the integration of quantum computing with artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and data science to address real-world challenges in areas such as environmental protection, clean energy, cybersecurity, smart cities and supply chains, while contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In his remarks, Lam Hai Giang, vice chairman of Gia Lai provincial People's Committee, emphasised that quantum technology ushers in a new era of development for global science and innovation. He encouraged the participants to maintain the confidence and collaboration in transforming bold ideas into highly practical solutions.
