Vietnam exceeds 2023 labour export target

VOV.VN - The number of local people sent to work overseas rose to 111,507 between January and September, up 8% compared to the same period from last year.

According to statistics compiled by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA), the figure exceeded the target of 110,000 for the whole year.

Japan and Taiwan (China) made up the largest market for Vietnamese guest workers. Of the two, Japan received the largest number of Vietnamese workers during the reviewed period with 55,690, followed by Taiwan (China) with 46,166 people.

Other labour markets receiving large numbers of Vietnamese workers included the Republic of Korea (RoK) with 2,449, China with 1,361, Hungary with 1,148, and Singapore with 1,015.

Currently, Vietnam ranks first among 15 countries sending workers to the East Asian nation. As of December, 2022, there are 345,000 Vietnamese labourers working in Japan.

MoLISA said that this is attributable to a number of co-operation programmes between Vietnam and Japan. Currently, the two countries are working together to carry out a project helping Vietnamese workers seek suitable jobs in Japan, as well as gaining access to employment information after returning home. They also assist businesses to seek manpower in order to fill their vacancies.

In order to protect workers' interests in Japan, the Ministry has also signed co-operation agreements with many Japanese prefectures such as Chiba, Saitama, Gunma, Kanagawa, and Nagano.

This year, aside from sustaining traditional markets such as Japan, Taiwan (China), and the RoK, the MoLISA has also moved to explore new markets for Vietnamese workers, especially in Europe, such as Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, and Croatia.

In early August the Ministry and the Greek union of agricultural cooperatives discussed collaboration in sending Vietnamese to work in agriculture in this country. So far, six businesses have been allowed to send Vietnamese workers to Greece to work in this field.
